Yes. Therapy is for everyone who is interested in slowing things down in life and sifting through things. Therapy is, moreover, a safe and confidential space where we can press the pause button and look at things in detail. It allows us to go back in time and explore our past, reflect on our present worries and concerns, or celebrate our achievements, and shape the future we want to have.

Once you are conscious of your memories, thoughts, habits, and emotions you can have the choice to change them into ones that allow for more satisfying ways of living and being in relationships. Seeking therapy is not a sign of weakness. At the most basic level, therapy deals with two challenges we all have experienced in our lives: not doing well and getting better.

Psychotherapy has been shown to improve emotional and psychological well-being and is linked with positive changes in the brain and body. The benefits also include fewer sick days, less disability, fewer medical problems, and increased work and life satisfaction.

I work with young adults (18+) and adults. Also, I work with families of individuals experiencing mental health challenges. Other than traditional family therapy, I also have a new service called “family coaching,” or coaching for the caregiver. If you are interested in making an appointment, click here.

Psychotherapy can be short or long term. Some people come to therapy for a few sessions to address their current goals or life challenges. Others come looking to do deeper work, which may span over a few months to a year or more. Many people return to therapy from time to time as needed or to take the next step in their personal growth journey.

Unlike medical services, with behavioral health/mental health services, it is not always feasible to estimate what services you will need and for how long you will need them. The extent of the services (number of sessions, frequency and length) you will need will be influenced by many factors such as the therapeutic relationship, engagement in psychotherapy, ongoing/changing client’s goals, openness to the therapeutic process, speed of response to treatment, severity of condition, family dynamics impacting client’s wellbeing and ability to engage in treatment.

To be clear, many clients see relief from their original concerns within a few weeks, and far faster than a year. While it is true that problems that have been present for years will not disappear in just a few sessions, research consistently shows that psychotherapy is an effective tool to address emotional pain and the rough spots that invariably occur in life.

Generally, I like to address the following interrelated goals. First, I want to know what brings you to my office and I will invite you to talk about your worries and concerns. Second, I want to understand how your life would look like if you did not have any struggles. And third, I want to talk about the ways in which you and I can work together toward your goals. You will have the chance to talk through any concerns and ask any questions about how therapy works. People find the initial consultation very helpful.

Yes. Some of my clients prefer to be seen in person at my office. Others enjoy the comfort of easy access and convenience of virtual meetings (also called teletherapy), or combine in-person and online therapy depending on their schedules. Studies show that client outcomes in teletherapy do not generally differ from in-person versions of treatments. Whether in person or virtual, I will bring to the session the same toolkit and the same dosage of empathy, curiosity, and commitment to your wellbeing.

Yes. Some clients feel more comfortable sharing their thoughts as they move their bodies and walk side by side with me, rather than sitting in a room face to face. Being outside serves as exercise and can foster a better connection with nature and the wider world. There are also more opportunities to try grounding, emotional regulation, and mindfulness techniques.

I do not currently accept insurance, but I have partnered with Mentaya to make therapy more affordable. Mentaya is a platform that helps clients get money back on out-of-network therapy sessions. If you have out-of-network benefits, Mentaya will file claims and handle the insurance paperwork to make sure you get reimbursed. They charge a 5% fee per claim and have helped people get thousands of dollars back per year. The exact amount you get reimbursed will depend on your insurance plan. You can sign up using this link:

Note: Mentaya’s goal is to save you time and money. It’s completely optional, and as your therapist I do not benefit in any way from your participation. Alternatively, if you prefer to deal with the paperwork yourself, I can provide you with a monthly statement of services (superbill) so you can seek reimbursement from your insurance carrier. I encourage you to speak with your insurance carrier to verify coverage for out-of-network providers and for rates of reimbursement.
